Entry nº 29: Films and television influence the young.

The younger generation is becoming more and more like their fellow young people, their image, behaviour and even the way they talk are strongly influenced by what is shown in the media, especially films and television broadcasts. Although this fact is quite obvious, there are some people who believe it does not.
On the one hand, many people think that the way in which young people are influenced by the media is a real and generalizad fact. Teenagers are seen wearing the same sort of clothes, they have the same hair-cut and they talk to each other with expressions that are widely spread on television programmes, films and music videos. As teen tend to worship famous stars, they try to imitate their idols in all senses so that they start behaving as similarly to their heroes, copying everthing they can. They become slaves of their image and the media use this to impose new trends and to promote consumerism. In this way the younger get tied to the latest fashion.
On the other hand, some people believe that this situacion is a natural consequense of the characteristic immaturity present at this age. Youn people are full of insecurities and doubts about who they are and what they want; so in the way to form themselves as indiviaduals they look for their peers acceptance and therefore youngsters try to look like the rest and to behave in the same way their friends do. For example, those who listen to punk or heavy metal music will dress in dark clothes, will have particular hair-cuts and will talk using the slang used in the songs they listen to. Equally, those who are fans of a sport like football will use the t-shirts and all the merchandising of their clubs, and will reject the fanatics of their rival sports club.
To sum up, I think that the behaviour of young people is easily influenced by what is shown on television and films due to the immaturity of their age. And in the searching for their peers approval, they adopt the same behaviour of their friends that is usually subjected to the latest fashion imposed by the media.
